- cataphatic theology
- ; cataphatic theology; kataphasis; kataphatic theology, via affirmativeKataphasis (a Greek word meaning "affirmation" or "speaking about") refers to theological approaches that affirm (thus, a via affirmativa or affirmative route) thedivine attributes: "God is good, just, wise, loving," and so on. In human beings, each of these attributes is limited, but in the case of God, such attributes are infinite; for example, "God is infinitely good." In spirituality, kataphasis is a way of approaching God by emphasizing those human attributes that help bring a person closer to God.
